Recommended Border Tile

Fleur-de-Lis Ceiling Tile - Faux Copper

We recommend using Fleur-de-Lis Ceiling Tile - Faux Copper as a border tile for Empire Ceiling Tile - Faux Copper.

For tiles that either project down into the room or are coffered (recess up into the ceiling), the finished look is often better when using a border tile for partial tiles on the room's perimeter.

These thermoform tiles are made from UV Stabilized .030" thick vinyl plastic. They are designed to provide all the functionality of conventional drop ceiling tiles at a fraction of the weight. The sturdy construction makes them a breeze to install, easy to clean, stain resistant, water resistant, dust free, and eco friendly! Installation is fast and couldn't be any easier.

Designed to fit all standard 15/16" - 1" T-Bar and 9/16" T-Bar Ceiling Systems.

Most of the thermoform ceiling tiles come in two sizes, 2'x2' and 2'x4'. If you have a 2x4 grid ceiling, but prefer the look of 2x2 ceiling tiles, simply insert a 2' center T bar available online or at most local hardware stores...it's easy!

Highlights:
The Empire tile is an elegant style that is reminiscent of one of the popular patterns often seen on stamped tin ceilings. It can be used in a grid or directly mounted to your ceiling. At .03" thick, it is twice as thick as many of our other grid tiles. Being that it is Class A Fire rated, it is an excellent choice for most businesses and homes. We are also proud to say that it is made in the USA.

Things to Consider:
If you are planning to directly mount these on your ceiling, the Grid Strips are a must have accessory for covering the seams between each tile.

For direct mount applications, we have found that PL Premium Advanced (Loctite brand) works great. If you determine you need a stronger adhesive, try DAP Weldwood Contact Cement (stronger but more time consuming).

The thickness of the Empire makes it capable of handling a bit of weight. If you would like to keep your existing tile in the grid for acoustical/sound barrier purposes, you are able to do so without the risk of sagging.

Since your ceiling will more than likely have partial tiles at the perimeter, you will have to cut the tiles to size for those areas. Since the Empire tile projects .80" below the grid, it isn't suitable to be used as a partial tile. Not to worry, since we have many great border tile options. You will notice that we have them conveniently linked for your selection on the product details page.

If your grid is already white and in good condition, it should match the white Empire tile very well. If you are going with a colored option, we highly recommend that you consider the Grid Tape or Grid Strips since they are color coordinated with the ProLite collection. If you would prefer to avoid the extra expense, you can of course paint your grid as well.

Waterproof

Class A Fire Rated

Makes the room!

This tile has a high profile which gave some depth to the ceiling. This beautiful room was marred by 2x4 acoustic tiles after a fire in the 1970s. Putting a new ceiling up was impractical because of electrical cables and necessary access to plumbing above. This was a cost effective and practical solution. Jason and Edde were very helpful on the phone with suggestions.

The bedroom is now called the queen's chambers!

Very elegant and easy to install win win! Also I was short maybe 7 tiles and I had them in two days to finish the job. Excellent service all the way around. Something that is much appreciated these days

Gorgeous! Everyone thinks its orginal - 100y/o

This tile blends in almost seamlessly with the white grid (both a tad grey really I think.) Easy to cut and install, almost perfect with LED recessed/can lights. We could not be happier with our selection for our 100 yr old bank remodel.

Really transformed my Theater room

These tile look great, worth the purchase. So much better than a plain ceiling or ceiling tile. You definitely need a border tile if the room is not in 2' exact dimensions due to the depth of the tile. To give my theater more sound proofing and to hold them in place, I placed these over plain fiber tiles. Given they are PVC the flexibility helped with tight applications because of low clearance, grid supports, or recessed lighting cans. The 4" recessed lighting can bezel fits nicely inside of the round decorative part (I used high lumen LED bulbs to make up for not using 6" cans). I could not be happier with the look!
